Imagine a day spent in an orchard with your family, picking apples from the trees. Then you go home with bags of fresh fruit you’ve picked yourselves! For younger kids, “u-pick” farms and orchards are a great place to show them where food comes from and how it grows. For older children, picking fruit gives them a productive activity — even one they can do with friends. And it gives everyone a fun family time. Many orchards also have animals, corn mazes, cider, and baked goods, so you can make a day of it.
Here are some popular apple orchards around the USA and Canada. Wherever you go, contact the orchard ahead of time to get the picking schedule.
